3 Japanese Insurers Begin Merger Talks

The three leading insurers in Japan said that on Friday began merger talks, possibly paving the way for a new leader to appear in one of the world's largest nonlife insurance markets.

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings, Aioi Insurance and Nissay Dowa General Insurance announced that they will lead discussions with the objective of Aioi and Nissay Dowa under the aegis of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group in April 2010.

The combination would create a company with revenue of about yen2.7 trillion, or 30.5 billion dollars, which pre-empt Tokyo Marine Holdings on the basis of income, to become the largest Japanese companies in the sector.

Analysts in Tokyo generally perceived the transition to a combination of the three companies in a positive light, citing the cost savings in the systems and the likelihood of reduced property insurance costs from streamlining outlets. Following the merger of three companies expected to check the computer system savings yen20 billion yen30 billion he said Yuichi Murakami, director of corporate communications at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.

Younger Japanese have been shying from cars and auto insurance to be the largest source of income for most nonlife insurers. Auto insurance accounted for 54.8 percent of revenues in the Japanese nonlife companies from 31 March, in accordance with the General Insurance Association of Japan.

The combination will allow for some cross-fertilization of business and allow the combined company access to a wider customer base by bringing together different groups of business, analysts say. Toyota Motor is the largest shareholder in Aioi Insurance with 33.4 percent of shares, and Nippon Life Insurance has a 35.38 percent stake in Nissay Dowa General Insurance.

Smaller companies can no longer compete with their larger competitors, especially in such areas as cost-intensive systems and move to greater economies of scale is likely to continue, analysts say.

There were 30 Japanese nonlife insurers at the end of September, down from 38 in September 2000. Even that number is too high, according to some analysts. "It will be difficult to expand the Japanese nonlife insurance market further," said Keiko Mizuguchi, a principal analyst ratings in Japan. "I hope to see further integration."

Nonlife insurance companies are grouped into seven major associations for the time being, but the number may eventually fall three companies linked to the storm in the rough times, analysts say.

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance now ranks second in Japan, after Tokyo Marine Holdings. Aioi and Nissay Dowa is much less on the basis of income.

"The combination of the combined company will emerge with a 30 percent market share in the Japanese nonlife" Murakami said.

It will also take the combined company's fifth place in the world based on the yen on the basis of income, after Allianz of Germany, the State Farm and AIG in the United States and AXA of France.

Japan was the fourth largest nonlife insurance market in the world based on revenue, with the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom, from the end of 2006, according to the General Insurance Association of Japan.

Road Runner : Dropping Car Insurance an Unwise Way to Scrimp

Another sign of economic times is that fewer people renewing their car insurance, says the Insurance Research Council study.

Despite an overall more people were carrying car insurance in 2007 than they were five years earlier, which could be on the brink of change. The Research Council said the bad economy is expected to cause more people to drop their insurance, or do not insure their vehicles in the first row.

It is appalling, dangerous and expensive prospect.

Put aside the legal requirement to have insurance for a moment. For me, it comes back to what our mothers told us, when you learn to drive:

"It is not I'm afraid that all the other drivers on the road."

Although sometimes, it may be ironic because, I think that statement is suitable for car insurance lesson. You're a safe driver, and figure you do not need insurance, but what happens when someone hits a car? Even worse, what happens when someone clicks on your car and flee the scene?

Twice last year my car was hit by other drivers, but both times the insurance company coughed repair costs, it was out-of-pocket for me and my insurance company or other drivers had no insurance.

This is particularly true with respect to time someone hit my car in the parking lot. I am sure that the driver had left the scene, if you do not have to wait for a table outside and witnessed everything. Not only does it cost a lot in an accident or when other drivers do not have insurance, but uninsured drivers cause all of our premium increases.

The uninsured-driver apparently raises the rate constant at the rate of unemployment. Insurance Research Council says that for every 1 percent increase in unemployment, the uninsured driver-level rise by three-quarters percent.

Do not ask someone who had recently lost his job (and thousands of people in Tucson) to buy less food for the family or add to the heat, to pay for car insurance, but I hope that the insurance is dropping something people weigh heavily against them do it.

First, most people who have cars will probably continue to use them, as search for the next task. They may even be required to provide proof of car insurance, when they obtain the next task.

Route Q

Question: "I ride my bicycle all over Tucson and occasionally drive. Nowhere else do not see the" automatic "green arrows on the Fifth Street traffic turning on Craycroft. Even if there is no east-west traffic, there is an arrow. I don’t know if he adjusts for a long line of Turners, but it appears that a minimum time before going yellow independently. Although the rush-hour traffic is not so much a problem for us cyclists, northbound traffic will support 30 or more cars in the afternoon. The delay caused by an arrow in the certainly contributes to the problem. " - Michael Gordy

Answer: The traffic signal at North Craycroft Road and East Fifth Street is controlled by loop detectors, said Michael Graham, Tucson Department of Transportation spokesman. To the west the detector is damaged, so the signal to activate the left-turn arrow, regardless whether a vehicle is waiting for a turn, he said. Department responds to the "critical issues of public safety," and there is no timetable for determining the signal, he said.

State Completes Probe of Auto Insurers

Independent auto body shop owners have long argued that the auto insurers are illegal "steering" consumers to the stores in the network, but the state insurance investigators claimed that they've found only isolated cases, rather than systemic violations of the law state industry.

A 19-month investigation by the Department of Insurance to find "some representatives of the insurance companies involved in practices that could be considered a breach of the insurance law or regulations," officials said in a press release. Such practices involved "improper or inaccurate information provided to consumers, they said.

The state does not find widespread problems or policy at any insurer that has broken the law.

"We have not found the formula misconduct or violations of standard," said Steven Nachman, deputy superintendent for insurance fraud and consumer services. "We see visible single violation."

Officials are now reaching out to these companies to their awareness of potential violations and to give them an opportunity to respond, defense and correct such violations. Will include the repair of a fine or other penalty has not yet been determined, and depends on the nature of the infringement and the companies response officials said. State did not say how many violations found, nor identify him insurers.

"I always want to send the corrected version will see the practice and whether a fine or penalty is warranted will depend on the specific breach" Nachman said. "Regardless of whether the companies is cooperative and agree to change their practices is something that comes to bear."

Local Body Shop owners were satisfied.

"Everyone has the right to choose the shop of their choice," said Rich Leather, owner of Mike's Leather Collision in Blasdell. "When the customer has a choice, it always better."

"It's a long-term investigation, but I am very happy that our state department of insurance is to take an active role in protecting consumers' rights," said Mark mixed, owner Elma collision. "This is something that has been going on for several years and we hope that this investigation will lead him to stop."

Insurers were not surprised. "I do not think there would be no serious systemic problems with the steering wheel and only a few isolated cases," said Ellen Melchionni, president of New York Insurance Association. "The report went exactly as we thought that the industry was in line with the law."

The investigation, which began in May 2007, stemmed from complaints by the New York State Automotive Collision Technicians Association.

Trade group of independent auto body workshops repeatedly argued that the auto insurers were using the "heavy-handed tactics" to drive customers to conflict-specific workshops, refusing their business. Local shops in Western New York even launched an advertising campaign to educate consumers about their rights and persuade them to benefit from independent shops.

"It was clear that consumers are confused. They're in stressful situations and do not know what their rights," said Ed Kizenberger, executive director of the group.

The group said in its press release that "a large number and frequency of complaints and calls were received from consumers and retailers" led it to call for investigation.

"We are grateful to the insurance department took the matter seriously enough to look at New York on behalf of insurance consumers," said Chairman, Mike Orso.

State law clearly gives consumers the right to choose where they want to have vehicles repaired after the collision. It also bars auto insurers targeting business anywhere.

As health insurers with a network of doctors, auto insurers can create a network "participating" or "direct repair" shops that agree to charge less to insurers in exchange for business.

Insurers can talk about their networks and tout the benefits, but they are prohibited recommending, directing or requiring customers to choose the auto shop, or for repair or inspection.

Indeed, with the exception of window glass repair, they can not even refer to propose concrete or shop unless the consumer asks first. In addition, the checks must be carried out by the insurer at a time and place convenient for the customer, not necessarily in the shop. And the insurer must pay the costs of repairing the damage, even if you do not fix it, that it can not force someone to repair the car in order to make money.

"Consumers need to know their rights and know that the Department of Insurance stands ready to protect them," State Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo said in a press release.

Breaches occurred when representatives of insurance claims, usually by phone, or recommend a shop without prompting from consumers or customers, he said, the damaged cars had to be checked at a specific location, such as the drive through the company's facility. Or implied, that the inspections will be much faster in the shop than a non-affiliate.

Researchers found companies set target of 45 percent to 60 percent of car repair shops repaired the network.

"Companies have the right to discuss the benefits of their programs, but they are not allowed to be used to process claims or mislead consumers, in particular, making the choice of what is usually stressful time," Dinallo said.

Insurance Bill to Allow More Payout

A driver slams on the car, leaving you with personal injury, including 200,000 dollars.

AT-fault driver has a range of up to 100,000 dollars and have coverage that pays for 100,000 dollars, if hit by an uninsured driver.

Under current law, you can collect only $ 100,000 compensation.

A Manchester Democratic legislator noted trial lawyer wants to allow the victim to get the driver to pay $ 200,000 for injuries, and calls it the basic unfairness in the current insurance law.

"Most people think they are fully insured, but they do not include anything under the policy, if a person is guilty of the same amount of insurance," said Rep. David Nixon.

Insurance leaders warned Nixon's Bill (HB 198) would lead to a perversion of the uninsured or underinsured driver coverage, buy and could increase the country relatively low auto insurance rates across the board.

George Roussos, a lobbyist with the National Association of New Hampshire insurance companies, said drivers can buy as many uninsured coverage, and want to fully protect themselves.

"This bill will add costs at a time when people can least afford to pay for them," Roussos certificate in the Chamber of Commerce warned the committee.

"There is no need for this bill. You can buy this protection, if you want to go, by purchasing more coverage."

David Withers, an actuary from the Department of Insurance, agreed Nixon's bill would mark the price for all customers.

"In fact, there will be no more losses paid a premium will be higher, regardless of what the new boundaries," he said.

In some countries, to allow drivers to ram or "stack" together medical damages may collect, if they are owners of many cars on the same insurance policy, and Nixon had a separate bill (HB 200) to allow only.

Withers said he was not aware that any state may collect damages for the victims in both the drivers' insurance, even if they have the same restrictions on coverage.

New Hampshire does not require drivers to purchase car insurance.

Those who buy policies, but are intended to cover the purchase of rider accidents with uninsured or underinsured drivers.

James Hatem, a lobbyist for the state-owned farms, said to help drivers who have accidents with uninsured drivers.

Both sides agreed the overwhelming majority of consumers do not understand what it means to bear, in the event of an accident.

Concord trial lawyer and ex-Supreme Court Justice Chuck Douglas said that it would be a relaxation of arbitration, to be used only if the insurance company and injured the driver does not agree to the covered injury.

"This project will not be a little more fairness in the system," said Douglas.

More Drivers Going Without Insurance

Ed Gilmartin knew something askew 50 customers when their car insurance fell in November and December.

"It was more appeals from 1 January to Thanksgiving than in any other years, we have experience," said Mr. Gilmartin, who is the owner of Gilmartin Insurance Agency in Scranton.

More car insurance consumers abandoning illegally during the economic crisis, increasing the risk to themselves and other drivers.

"As economic conditions deteriorated dramatically, you are probably driving more people uninsured," said David Corum, a Vice President at the Insurance Research Council, the industry-funded group based in Malvern. "People who are insured will pay more because the costs of uninsured drivers are distributed among those of us who have coverage."

The Council will issue a report this week correlating increase in unemployment in the revitalization of uninsured drivers. Based on estimated national unemployment rate of 7.5 percent in 2010, the percentage of uninsured drivers would increase to 16 percent from 14.5 percent in 2005, the report projects.

This may mean 3 million more uninsured drivers on our roads in 2010 than in 2005, based on U.S. Department of Transportation data.

State model also points to more drivers "born" in the industry term for driving uninsured.

Suspension of registration for the car insurance lapsed totaled 97,000 between July and December, running 21 percent ahead of the same pattern in 2007, State Department of Transportation figures show. A penalty for carrying out the uninsured includes $ 300 fine and three-month suspension for a driving license and vehicle registration.

"Unemployment causes tremendous pressure on the insurance market," said Sam Marshall, chairman of the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, the trade association based in Philadelphia. Usually from 5 to 8 percent of registered state uninsured drivers, it estimates.

Chart is a bad turn for all motorists. If an uninsured driver hits your insured, the victim may have to sue to recover damages. Many uninsured drivers minimum assets.

Drivers can protect themselves from uninsured and underinsured coverage, but these contributions are increasing, Mr. Marshall said.

"If you see an increase in uninsured drivers, you're going to see an increase in uninsured (coverage) rates," he said.

Car insurance rates are rising across the board. Contributions in December were 4 percent higher than year ago levels, U.S. Department of Labor data show.

Economic tailspin caused national and regional unemployment to the highest level in a decade - 7.2 percent and 7 percent nationwide in the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre / Hazleton metro area. Climbing consumer costs combined with declining home values shares retirement accounts have been transferred millions of households into insolvency.

For some drivers, dropping the car insurance is an excellent choice among unpleasant options.

"If you give something, car insurance can be," Mr. Gilmartin said.

Renee Jennes, President Jennes Insurance Agency in Throop, noticed a car insurance appeals are starting to jump to six months ago.

"We're seeing a lot of people who came to nonpayment. They simply can not pay your bills," Ms. Jennes said.

Agents also see more customers’ change of policy, such as the eradication of conflicts and comprehensive scope, in order to reduce costs.

"People are calling us; they have difficulty with their bills. They are looking at their payments down," said Bob Turano, who owns insurance agencies in Honesdale.

"Many people throw their insurance, many are reducing their coverage, and many are purchasing insurance," Mr. Gilmartin said.

Slow Economy Sees Rise in Uninsured Drivers

The Wall Street Journal

More drivers own car insurance lapse because of the sour economy, putting themselves and others at risk.

Some one hundred thousand drivers dropped their insurance last year as the unemployment rate increased, the estimated study, to be delivered shortly by the Insurance Research Council, the industry-funded group.

The trend is bad news for everyone on the road. If hit by an uninsured driver, you may have to sue to recover the costs of uninsured drivers, and many have few assets. You can defend themselves by carrying uninsured-motorist coverage - almost half the states require the coverage - but may increase the premium.

Insurance Research Council the previous study, published in 2006, it was found that almost 15 percent of drivers are uninsured nationally in 2004, compared with about 13 percent in 1999.

Preliminary figures from councils show that a single percentage point increase in the unemployment rate is linked to the half-point increase in the percentage of uninsured drivers, "said David Corum Council Vice President.

Nation of unemployed was up 2 percentage points to 6.7 percent in November from the previous year. The group estimates the number of uninsured drivers on the basis of insurance claims.

Possibly adding to this problem is the fact that auto-insurance rates have increased 3.8 percent in November from a year ago, according to the Department of Labor consumer price index.

Agents say the growing numbers of customers are stripping their auto-insurance policies, with an absolute minimum level of accountability required by law to drive.

"A good proportion of people living on the road are uninsured , and so you have to defend it," said Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, non-profit groups. "Your chances of being in an accident with uninsured drivers are significant."

Drivers driving without insurance may lose regardless of their assets in the sentence. Also, driving without insurance is illegal in 48 states and District of Columbia. New Hampshire and Wisconsin do not require insurance.

Drivers who allow their policies expire often have to pay an initial 25 to 50 per cent surcharge for the new policy. Insurance companies charge them more, because they consider it irresponsible: unlicensed and uninsured drivers are disproportionately involved in fatal accidents.

Without a net

A slumping economy is the introduction of more uninsured drivers on the road. Here's how to protect yourself:

Make sure that compensates for the additional insurance if you are hit by an uninsured driver.

Set your own liability insurance commensurate with the amount of assets. This amount also helps determine your limit uninsured driver coverage

Drivers Facing 11 Per Cent Rise in Insurance Premiums

Drivers have been warned to brace for a double-digit percentage increase in the price of car insurance this year.

Broker AA estimates premiums will increase by about ten percent and 11 percent in 2009 as insurers continued to struggle with rising costs of fraud and personal injury claims.

Some insurers say the premiums can soar by as much as 20 percent, while AA Insurance said that it is not seen this level of growth, it added that such an increase would be needed if the deposit liabilities have been profit.

Insurance companies pay out about 105 pounds of costs and charges for every 100 pounds they inch premium

In the past, the mis-matching contributions and the cost was not a problem as the industry has been able to recover the difference by investing premiums on the stock market.

But in the current volatile investment climate, they are no longer able to make up the shortfall in this way.

The insurance industry has not done underwriting profit for about 20 years, with premium increases earlier down by competition are due to enter service providers in the market and online price comparison websites.

But AA Insurance said the average cost of the most competitive comprehensive motor insurance premiums grew by 8.7 percent over the year to end-September to an average of 486.45 pounds.

The figures are not yet available in the last quarter of the year, but thought the premiums jumped by about three percent in the three months to the end of December alone.

The problem for the industry is the fact that claims costs have increased sharply in recent years, especially personal injury claims, due to the rising costs of medical care and the growing number of "no win, no fee" claims companies.

Ian Crowder, AA Insurance, said: "Some commentators point to an increase of 20 percent over the next few years and, of course, increase the size of that will be necessary if the insurance industry is to achieve the commitments of profit."

Hendrix Threatens Suit on Detroit Car Insurance

Detroit Mayoral candidate Freman Hendrix said today would be the class file a judicial action against insurance companies, if refuse to lower car insurance premiums components.

"I advocate the exercise of any option in order to bring some relief to the insurance rates in this city," he said this morning after his spokesman, Greg Bowens, described the position on the morning talk radio. "When people just pack and leave the city, one of two or three reasons, it is not always their car insurance."

Even car rampant crime does not add to what Detroiters pay premiums, he said. Detroit's cars are the highest in the United States twice that of No. 2, Philadelphia, he noted.

"The City of Detroit was two times higher than the second highest city in America, and there is no reason anyone can give me why," he said.

Before resorting to the court, said that it is worth to create a community-based safety initiative to reduce crime, such as vehicle theft, speeding and accidents in some surrounding areas.

Then, armed with statistics showing that Detroiters have a Community action, he said, is that insurance companies push rates to a more comparable to suburban areas.

"This challenge, which is in," he said. "I do not believe things fair, car insurance rates based on ZIP code, not the person driving habit is unfair. I think that looking at the person as a credit score to determine their contribution is manifestly unjust."

He said that there is no time to act, if he elected to answer questions only ideas Detroiters he'd address on vehicle insurance.

"I am in response to stress, as Detroiters bring to me," he said.

Do You Need Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance?

When buying a home, there are many things that go to your mortgage. At its good faith estimate, you can see several types of insurance, which did not even know what they are.

Both you and your lender want to keep the house. The lender does not want you to default, it cost money to exclude. That is why they ask for so many different types of insurance. For example, if you put less than 20% down, you will be required to pay for private mortgage insurance. This insurance is only for the lender and not for you.

However, a type of insurance, which may be offered a mortgage insurance. This protects both the bank and your family. If you die, the insurance policy will pay the remainder of the balance of a mortgage. Your family gets to keep the house and the bank gets its money.

You may also be offered insurance for their auto loans, secured loans, loans and signing a credit card. The same idea applies to all those loans. In the event of your death, the policy pays off the debt.

But do not simply jump to this kind of insurance. It depends on your situation.

My parents had it on three of my father's credit card. They have no life insurance, as my father was very old and not in great health. Their credit cards were not only the debt. When passed, the insurance paid these cards. Yes, my mother probably paid the amounts included in the company's contributions, but it was nice to her case, to all of them into custody. She did not have to dip it in savings.

Personally, my husband and I have life insurance. We do not need mortgage insurance, because they have adequate life insurance to meet any future needs for one of us successfully. If you already have insurance, you do not have to pay for double coverage.

If you do not have life insurance, mortgage insurance is a good idea?

Please note that the bank is a money lender and not the supplier of insurance. You are more likely to make better contributions and scope of the term life insurance than a bank.

Also, the premiums on your mortgage payment protection, also known as MPP, remain the same throughout the period of your mortgage. But the mortgage balance decreases. You are paying less the same range. There is no much sense.

The most important thing to remember is that mortgage payment protection insurance will only take care of your mortgage. If you pass, it will not continue to pay other bills.

This is a good idea to cancel the mortgage insurance and take out life insurance, if possible. If you are not able to get life insurance because of various medical reasons, then by all means, the protection of mortgage
